High School Band PlayingPPA Grants:

The Berks Arts Council awarded over $50,000 in grant funds to 39 re-grant recipients in October 2009, thanks to an annual grant received from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. These re-grants, provided by state tax dollars, fund a variety of dance, theatre, music and visual arts projects within Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties. The BAC is one of 17 Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) organizations (overseen by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts) that annually evaluate grant requests for arts projects, individual artists and ongoing programs within the four-county region.

The Berks Arts Council’s service area includes Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties.

Lebanon:
Historic Schaefferstown, $796; Lebanon Community Concert Band, $1,059; Lebanon County Concert Association, $1,765; Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts, $1,493; PA German Studies Program, $1,145; PA Historic Dramas, $905; and Voices of Palmyra, $1,086.

Schuylkill:
Black Diamond Writers' Network, $498; Nuremberg Community Players, $1,222; Pine Grove Community Band, $181; Schuylkill Express Chorus, $1,493; Sovereign Majestic Theater, $1,629; and Stonehedge Gardens, $1,530.

The awards ceremony for Berks & Schuylkill counties was held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., Room 238, Reading. The awards ceremony for Lebanon and Lancaster counties was held Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Lebanon Valley Council on the Arts, 734 Willow St., Lebanon.
